What is a work comp injury?

A workers’ compensation injury is any injury or illness that occurs as a direct result of a person’s job duties or workplace environment. It can be an acute event, such as a fall, laceration or strain, or a condition that develops gradually from repetitive motion, chemical exposure or ergonomic strain. In nearly every state, employers must carry workers’ compensation insurance, which covers medical treatment, wage replacement and rehabilitation costs regardless of who was at fault.

When an injury is properly documented and treated from the first visit, it reduces confusion for the employer, the insurance carrier and the treating physician, and gives the employee a clear path back to health and back to work.

What is included in work injury care?

Assessment. A thorough history and physical exam focused on how the injury occurred and the affected body systems. Our providers assess severity, order imaging or lab studies as needed, and decide the right level of care — conservative management, specialist referral or further work-up.

Treatment. Evidence-based treatment for the specific injury: wound care, splinting or bracing, medication management, physical therapy referral, or coordination with an orthopedic or other specialist.

Follow-up. Scheduled follow-up visits to track healing, adjust treatment and document objective progress, so complications are caught early.

Return to work. We work with the employee and employer to define safe, medically appropriate work restrictions, update them as the condition improves, and provide clear work status reports at every visit.
