Ezee Urgent Care provides infectious disease screening to help employers meet regulatory requirements, protect their workforce, and support the health of employees who may be exposed to communicable diseases through their job duties. Diseases we can provide screenings for include:
- Hepatitis B virus
- Hepatitis C virus
- HIV
- Measles, mumps, rubella
- Varicella (chicken pox)
- COVID-19 / Influenza
- Tuberculosis (TB)
Tuberculosis (TB) screening
Tuberculosis screening is an important part of occupational health for employees in healthcare, correctional and other high-risk settings where exposure to TB is more likely. We offer several screening options so employers can choose the approach that best fits their industry requirements and their employees’ testing history.
Available TB screening options:
1. Tuberculin Skin Test (Mantoux Test)
- Also called a PPD test, named for the purified protein derivative solution placed under the skin to evaluate the body’s immune response and detect TB infection.
- Requires a follow-up visit within 48 to 72 hours after placement so the test can be properly read.
- For employees who undergo periodic TB screening or who are otherwise at significant risk of TB exposure, a 2-step TST should be performed for baseline testing. This involves two tests separated by at least one week, and is typically required for health care personnel (HCP), correctional facility employees and first responders.
- If the test is not read within the 48- to 72-hour window, the employee will need to repeat the test.
2. QuantiFERON-TB Gold (Blood Test)
- Also known as an Interferon Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) blood test.
- Requires only a single visit for medical clearance.
- Does not require a follow-up visit for reading, which increases compliance.
- Prior BCG vaccination does not affect the test result.
3. Chest X-Ray
A chest X-ray may be recommended when an employee has a positive TB skin test or blood test, has symptoms suggestive of active TB, or requires clearance to rule out active pulmonary disease before returning to a congregate or high-risk work setting.
Because a positive screening test only indicates exposure to or infection with TB and cannot distinguish latent from active disease on its own, a chest X-ray provides essential information about the current state of the lungs, helping to confirm whether active tuberculosis is present and guiding the appropriate next steps in treatment and workplace clearance. Chest X-rays are done on site.
